Tournament Program Guidelines

Thank you for participating in First Tee - Greater Houston Tournament program which is geared toward getting our members on a course and playing more golf in 2022. Each event will be 9-holes (18 holes for participants in Birdie - Ace Division age 13-18) played at F.M. Law Park, participants will receive an excused absence if playing in the event conflicts with a First Tee class they are enrolled in. Parents, please remember that our program’s primary intent is youth development, and this competitive option is being organized for the development & progression of our membership. Parents, please stay off the fairways and, in general, keep your distance from the players. The environment we are intending to create is one of support and encouragement so please keep this in mind.

  • The event will be tee times beginning at 7:30am and awards will be issued under the pavilion once play has concluded in each division.
  • Participants will play in a stroke play format.
  • There will be a max score of double par on each hole to help with pace of play. If a player reaches the max score for a hole they must pick their ball up.
  • Tee times ranging from 7:30am-9:20am will play 18-holes which will be two loops of the course.
  • There will be water/snacks available for the players but there will not be a lunch or meal at the conclusion of play.
  • During the round listening to music from your personal device is prohibited, this includes in ear buds or headsets.
  • Participants must walk and carry/pull their own bag.
  • USGA rules govern play.
  • If a ball hits the power line on Hole 1 the stroke does not count and the player must play the stroke again.Since there are no rakes in the bunkers, if your ball ends up in a footprint you can pick up your ball, smooth the area with your foot and place your ball on the original spot.
  • There are out of bounds stakes on the right side of Hole 9. If your ball goes to the right of these stakes you will need to hit another shot from the previous spot and add one penalty stroke. So, if your ball may be out of bounds we recommend you hit a provisional.
  • Participants in the 7-9 age division (Yellow Tees) will be allowed to have an adult caddie to assist with Pace of Play. Caddies may assist with yardage, club selection, alignment, reading putts and carrying/pulling the bag but no coaching (showing/telling a player how to make a swing). Caddie bibs will be issued at the check in table.
  • Boys/Girls 7-9 division (Yellow Tees); Boys/Girls 10-12 division (Red Tees); Boys/Girls 13-18 division Adv PLAYer – Adv Par (White Tees); Boys/Girls 13-14 division Birdie - Ace (White Tees); Boys/Girls 15-18 division Birdie - Ace (Blue Tees)
  • Participants are placed in age divisions based on their age at the end of the Tournament Season (12/10/22). For example, if a player is 9 years old at the start of the tournament season but turns 10 before 12/10/22 they will compete in the 10 year old division from the beginning of the year.
  • If a participant transitions from Advanced Par to Birdie during the tournament season past tournament scores will be compared to how they would have finished in their new division and the previous accrued points will be adjusted.

Parents

  • Other than the 7-9 age group Parents need to stay off the fairway and, in general, keep their distance everywhere else on the course. Coaching is not allowed. This lets the players use their own judgement and learn to deal with the emotions that come with playing in a golf tournament.
  • Parents should stay one shot ahead of the group they are following. This will allow you to follow errant shots and help find golf balls which will help with pace of play.
